Netbook Or Laptop Computer?

Netbooks are super small but slow

Netbooks are very slow; don’t expect to do more than one thing at a time, beyond reading your email, etc. But they are very compact and you can get some that have long life batteries.

I have both a netbook and a laptop. I use the netbook when I travel – makes packing SO much easier. The netbook fits in my camera bag too; I can do all carry-ons now.

Although my netbook is very slow, if I’m patient I can do pretty much anything I can do on my laptop (even some simple photo edits), but I’d find it too frustrating to use that way for regular use.

If you get a laptop, get one with a dual core at least.

which is an entirely different question. A “netbook” is a tiny compact “notebook” with a slow CPU – so they are very different.

Actually, some people point out differences in the term “notebook” and “laptop,” but these days most people use the two terms interchangeably. Some years ago, when laptops got too hot for the average lap, there was a move to re-term them “notebooks.” But it hasn’t entirely been effective.

I personally wouldn’t buy an HP – I’d buy a Dell or a Toshiba. Gateway…maybe, depends on the price, certainly not a Gateway for $799 which seems really expensive. Maybe for $399 or $499…maybe.

Notebook Vs Laptop which Is Best?

Notebook vs. Laptop

You want to get one of these, but  dont know what is better and moreso what is the difference between them. It looks like notebooks are cheaper so does that mean they arent as good?

Most people consider them interchangable

While there are some who claim real differences between a “notebook” and a “laptop,” most people I know use the two terms interchangeably. (“Netbook” is something different – it’s a very small, lightweight laptop or notebook).

Some manufacturers use one word, some the other. I wouldn’t get hung up on whether you are buying a “laptop” or a “notebook.” Instead, think about what you actually want to buy – size, features, price – not whether it is labeled one thing or another.

Apple vs Pc Why Is Apple more Expensive ?

PC v Apple

simple

the economics of scale

the PC has been open architecture for the longest time
that means anyone can make a PC, so that why there are a lot of 3rd party makers
for motherboards, vids card, memory chips and related PC peripherals, it also mean anyone can build one , configure in any way and sell one, it used to be you used to have to buy Microsoft
OS, but that was rule as a monopoly long ago and thus you can build a
PC bare and not have to pay the MS licensing fee to MS for their OS. there is also a a lot of free software out there for the PC, this makes the PC relatively cheap to build ( witness the netbooks ), it also allow them to out power the Apple notebooks and PC since their is bigger market for their hardware, software targets the bigger market as well

as for Apple
it now the same pc hardware underneath
but license and controlled by Apple ( they do go after makes of PC boxes selling them with the apple OS installed on them )
and it uses their OS, by keeping their “wall garden” approach and slick marketing, it narrows who can develop for Apple much less hardware development. Apple only has 5% of the PC market, MS
has about 80% of the OS market. Not many hardware or software hack exist for Apple products PC wise, but quite a bit exist for iPhones and iPads for people who do not like being restricted to what Apple says you can do with their hardware / software. This small market ensure high prices and high profits for Apple , though the majority of their profits come from the iPhone / Ipad sales. Computers Notebooks

USB 3.0 High End Devices And Thunderbolt

USB 3.0 is pretty easy to find on the high end

but most budget laptops don’t have USB 3.0 yet.

The new Sandy Bridge based laptops will have it on more units than the previous generation.

As far as ThunderBolt/Light Peak goes…It may be a superior interface, but it’s not quite ready for the masses yet. There are very few devices that are able to use it. USB 3 has a head start. Personally, I wish Apple would go ahead an adopt USB 3.0 for what’s out there now as well as legacy support, while everyone works to bring ThunderBolt and Light Peak to the forefront.

Lenovo Thinkpads, Dell Latitudes, HP EliteBooks, Asus’ ROG series.

I’m not saying that Apples aren’t high end…they certainly are expensive. But, they also lack a ton of important features that other notebooks offer.

There will be devices that use ThunderBolt. There will be devices eventually that use Light Peak. But there aren’t many right now. There’s intelligence in futureproofing. But by the time that reality catches up with that future, It may be time to get a new notebook anyway. I’d love to have a ThunderBolt device and be able to use that bandwidth.

There are devices that use USB3. There are devices that use USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 that are compatible with the USB 3 port.

They both have their place in tomorrow’s notebook. Today, USB 3.0 is the more useful interface. Personally, I’d like to see more usage of the USB/eSATA combo ports.
